A national cinema in full revival, the Russian film industry is awash with ‘ruskyi blockbusters’ that are rivalling the Hollywood market (Day Watch, Inhabited Island…) whilst at the same time producing sophisticated independent films (Alexandre Sokourov, André Zviagintsev) thanks to the dynamic and spirited new wave of Russian directors who have been inspired by the likes of Larry Clark and Gus Van Sant.
