Once a year, Shi’is go on a pilgrimage to Kerbala (a holy city in Shi’a Islam) as a tribute to the fall of Imam Hussein, beheaded in 680 by Sunni soldiers. From the most remote parts of Iraq, strings of believers walk through the desert, beating their head and chest in memory of the martyr. Following the pilgrims on the way to Kerbala, in the mist of the Iraqi chaos, this road-movie offers amazing insight into the Shi’a community in post-Saddam Iraq.
